The Gray Book

The Gray Book is a sacred ancient text, a tome, some might say. The pages are special paper for holding runes, with some runes so powerful, they'd burn through regular pages. In it is copied every rune Angel Raziel wrote in the original Book of the Covenant. There are few copies left as they have to be specially made. Shadowhunters learn one rune at a time from the book, and it usually takes a while for one to learn a single rune.
Gray is short for Gramarye which means 'magic' and 'hidden wisdom'.
