The Lightwoods

The Lightwoods are a very old and very powerful family of Shadowhunters. They are members of the Clave, and the living family members all reside in the New York Institute. During the 1800s, they lived in London. They are known for their snobbish attitude and disdain towards Downworlders and mundanes, though the disdain is slowly disappearing. They often have biblical and hebrew names. The Lightwoods are an old Shadowhunter family with a great deal of wealth. They have lived in London, Idris, and New York at different periods of time, often with high positions in the Clave.

Currently, only Isabelle and Alec are at the Institute. The other members of the family are in Idris due to serious circumstances regarding the Clave. Those no older than eighteen are permitted to go into Clave meetings unless it concerns that certain person, exclusively. Though Alec is above the eighteen year old law, he is staying behind to run the Institute in his parents's abscence.
